Replacing a euro cylinder lock barrel on a uPVC door in Wishaw

Door Repair Services In Wishaw

Nearly every uPVC door fault we get called to is one of three things. The door has dropped on its hinges and now catches on the frame or needs a shoulder to shut. The handle has gone stiff, floppy or will not lift to lock. Or the cylinder has worn and the key needs jiggling before it will turn.

All three are repairs rather than replacements. A dropped door is usually an adjustment at the hinges, a failed handle or gearbox is a part swap, and a worn cylinder takes minutes to change. Where we have the part with us the job is finished on the first visit. Where it is an older or unusual pattern we measure it up, order it in and come back.

There is no call out fee and no charge for coming to look, so if you are not sure whether it is worth fixing, ask. If a lock has failed and the door will not secure, tell us when you ring and we will move you up the list.

Window Repair Services In Wishaw

Windows tend to fail quietly. The handle starts spinning without engaging, the sash stops pulling tight against the frame so you feel a draught, or the hinges seize and the window either will not open or will not sit square when it does.

Most of it is hardware rather than glass. Friction stays, gearboxes, handles, locking points and hinges are all replaceable parts, and replacing them costs a fraction of a new window. We would rather fit a set of hinges than sell you a frame you did not need.

If you want to read up first, our guides on replacing window hinges and broken uPVC window handles explain what goes wrong and what is involved in putting it right.

Comprehensive Door Service

A service is what you book when nothing has actually broken yet. We realign the door so it sits square in the frame and shuts without being pulled, renew the weather seals where they have flattened off and started letting draughts through, and clean, lubricate and adjust the hinges, keeps and locking points so the handle lifts easily again.

We also tidy up the panel itself. Faded PVC can be brought back, and light scratches and chips can usually be made a lot less obvious without replacing anything.

It is straightforward work and it is the cheapest thing you will ever do for a door. A door that is adjusted and lubricated once in a while does not wear its gearbox out early, and gearboxes are the expensive part.

Comprehensive Window Service

The same idea applies to windows. We go round each one, realign the sashes so they close evenly, replace the seals that have gone hard or flat, and service the hinges and locking points so the handles work properly rather than being forced.

Seals matter more than most people expect. A window with tired gaskets is where the heat goes and where the draught comes in, and renewing them is a small job next to the difference it makes. Our guide on draught proofing before winter goes into it properly.

We finish by cleaning and restoring the frames, which takes care of most of the fading, marking and light scratching that makes an otherwise sound window look past it.

Glass Unit Replacement Services

When a sealed unit fails you get misting, streaking or a permanent haze between the panes that no amount of cleaning shifts. The seal has gone and moisture is sitting inside the glass. The frame is usually perfectly sound, so the fix is a new sealed unit rather than a new window. Cracked and broken panes are the same job.

Prices start at £75 fitted for a hopper sized unit. Beyond that every unit is measured and quoted on its own, because size, whether the glass needs to be toughened, obscure, low emissivity or leaded, and how easily it comes out of the frame all change the figure. We do not publish a price list because it would be wrong more often than it was right.

There is more on how it works in our guide to misted double glazing, and the repair prices page explains what drives the cost.

Replacement Door Panels

If the panel in your door is cracked, blown, water damaged or simply dated, you do not need a whole new door. The panel comes out and a new one goes into the existing frame, which keeps the cost down and means no disruption to the brickwork or the threshold.

It is also the easiest way to change how the front of the house looks. There is a wide range of styles, colours and glazed designs, and swapping the panel is a fraction of what a full replacement door costs.

Every panel is measured and quoted for the door it is going into, so ring us or send a photo and we will tell you what is possible. While the door is open it is a sensible time to sort anything else that is worn, such as a tired letterplate.

Areas We Cover

We repair windows and doors across Lanarkshire, Glasgow and beyond, including Motherwell, Hamilton, Bellshill, Airdrie, Coatbridge, Glasgow, East Kilbride, Carluke & Lanark and Livingston. Not on the list? Give us a call anyway, chances are we can help.

New and replacement windows

We repair first, but when a window is genuinely past saving we supply and fit new ones. There is no charge for measuring, the figure does not expire on Friday, and nobody here is on commission.

New and replacement doors

The same applies on the door side. Our doors in Wishaw page gathers the lot together, and from there you can read up on composite doors, uPVC front and back doors and bi-fold doors before anybody comes out to measure. If the door you have got can be saved, we will tell you that instead.

Advice on all of it, free to read

Before you book anything, it is worth knowing what is actually wrong. These four cover most of what we get called out to.

Fifty more, sorted by glass, doors, hardware and what to do before you spend anything, are in the advice section.

What the work costs

Every job is different, so we price each one on its own. What we can tell you up front is that a replacement sealed unit starts at £75 for a hopper sized piece of glass, and that we do not charge a call out fee. You pay for the work done and nothing else.

Past that, the price comes down to a handful of things. On glass it is the size of the unit, whether it is toughened or laminated, whether it carries a pattern or a lead effect, and how many are going at once. On hardware it is which lock, hinge or handle the window actually takes, because there are dozens of patterns and they are not interchangeable. On doors it is whether the fault sits in the cylinder, the multipoint mechanism or simply the alignment, and alignment is very often an adjustment rather than a part.

We will always tell you when a repair is the cheaper answer. A misted unit does not mean a new window, and a door that sticks in warm weather usually does not mean a new door.

Getting a price without waiting in for anyone

The quickest route is a photo. Send a picture of the window or door on WhatsApp, with a rough measurement if you can manage one, and we can usually come back to you the same day without anybody needing to come out. If it is something that genuinely has to be seen, we will say so and arrange a time that suits you.

Or just phone 01698 604 278. We are on the tools most of the day, so if it rings out leave a message and you will get a call back.

Common questions

Do you charge to come out and look?

No. There is no call out fee. You pay for the work done, and if we cannot help you there is nothing to pay.

Can you repair a window rather than replace the whole thing?

Most of the time, yes. Misting, draughts, stiff handles, dropped sashes and locks that will not turn are almost always repairs. Full replacement is the answer far less often than people are told. There is more on that in our guide to repairing or replacing windows.

How much is a misted double glazed unit?

A hopper sized unit starts at £75. Anything larger, patterned, toughened or laminated is quoted on its own, because the glass itself is the bulk of the cost. Send a photo and a measurement and we will give you a real number.

What areas do you cover?

Wishaw and the surrounding towns across North and South Lanarkshire, including Motherwell, Hamilton, Bellshill, Airdrie, Coatbridge, Larkhall, Blantyre and further out towards Glasgow and East Kilbride. The full list is on our areas we cover page.

What are your hours?

Eight in the morning until five in the afternoon, Monday to Friday. Messages left outside those hours get picked up the next working morning.

Do you fit new windows and doors as well as repairing them?

Yes. Repairs are the bulk of what we do, but we also supply and fit new units when a window or door is genuinely past saving. See new and replacement windows for how we quote and what drives the price.

If it is specifically windows you are weighing up, our windows in Wishaw page brings the repair side, the replacement side and every style we fit together in one place.

Patio, French, sliding and bi-fold doors have their own parts and their own faults, and those are covered on patio and French door repairs.
