Window glass replacement in Wishaw and across Lanarkshire
When the glass in a double glazed window fails, the window itself is nearly always fine. The part that has gone is the sealed unit, the two panes and the spacer bar between them, and we replace just that, in the frame you already have. Misted units, cracked panes, smashed glass, door glass and bathroom obscure glass are all the same job at heart, and we do it across Wishaw, Motherwell, Hamilton and the rest of Lanarkshire.
We work only with double glazed sealed units, and we do not cut glass ourselves. We measure the failed unit, our supplier makes a new one to those exact measurements, and we come back and fit it. That way every unit is factory sealed and made for your frame, and no subcontractor is involved from the first visit to the last. Misted windows: replace the unit, keep the frame
A misted window is a sealed unit whose seal has failed. Moist air gets into the gap between the panes, and you see fogging, droplets or a milky haze that will not wipe off from either side. It does not clear by itself, and drilling and drying it out does not last. The fix is a new sealed unit, made to measure and fitted into your existing frame.
- Misting, fogging or a cloudy haze inside the glass that will not wipe off
- Droplets, or even mould between the panes
- A smeared, blown look that comes and goes with the weather
- A colder feel near the window as the unit loses its insulating value

Cracked or broken glass
Broken glass is the same repair with more urgency. If a pane has been smashed, the first job is making the opening safe, and the glass goes back in once the new unit has been made. Sealed unit replacement, step by step
Two visits, normally inside the same week. On the first we measure the unit, check the beading and confirm the glass type. The new unit is made to measure, and standard clear units come back from the supplier in a few working days. Obscure patterns, toughened safety glass, leaded or Georgian bar units and anything oversized take a little longer.
On the second visit the beading comes off, the old unit comes out, the new one goes in and the beading goes back. It is usually under an hour a window, the room is usable again straight away, and the old glass leaves with us.

Replacement sealed units start from £75 for a hopper sized pane, the small opener at the top of a window. Above that the price depends on the size of the unit and the glass in it, so a large toughened pane beside a door costs more than a small obscure pane in a bathroom. Door glass, safety glass and obscure glass
Like for like is the usual choice, but a failed unit is a good moment to improve things while the beading is already off.

Questions we get asked about glass replacement
Will the misting clear on its own?
No. Once the seal has gone, moist air gets in every time the glass warms and cools, and the fogging gets worse rather than better. Some days it looks clearer than others, which fools people into waiting a winter longer than they needed to. The background is in why double glazing mists up.
Can you not just drill it and dry it out?
You will see that offered. We do not do it, because it does not last. Drilling and venting a unit removes the visible fog for a while, but the unit is no longer sealed, the gas fill is gone and the misting comes back. Replacing the unit fixes it once.
One pane has gone. Should I do the rest at the same time?
Only if they have actually failed. Units fitted on the same day do tend to fail within a few years of each other, so it is worth walking round with a torch on a cold morning and checking, but there is no sense replacing glass that is still sealed. If several have gone, doing them together brings the price per window down.
Can you replace the glass in a uPVC door?
Yes. Door glass comes out in much the same way as window glass and goes back in as safety glass. Decorative door glass can often be matched, and if the exact design is no longer made, we will tell you before anything is ordered.
Do you do single glazing or old timber windows?
No. We only replace double glazed sealed units. We do not do single glazing, or timber windows where the glass is bedded in putty, so if that is what you have, you need someone who does traditional glazing work. If your windows are double glazed, send us a photo and we will tell you straight away whether it is a job for us.
Is the frame ruined?
Almost never. The frame and the beading are fine in the large majority of cases, which is the whole point of replacing the unit rather than the window.
