Conservation areas in Giffnock, Busby and Eaglesham

East Renfrewshire Council has conservation areas in Giffnock, Busby and Eaglesham. Eaglesham was laid out as a planned village in 1769 and became one of the first conservation areas in Scotland in the sixties.

The national rules changed in May 2024, and in most places new windows no longer need a planning application. Conservation areas are the exception that matters here: replacing front windows, or side windows facing a road, needs prior approval from the council unless the new ones closely match the old, and a listed building needs listed building consent whatever you do.
