We are over in Coatbridge most weeks. It is a short run from our base in Wishaw, so a repair in Whifflet, Townhead or Old Monkland is an ordinary working day for us rather than a special trip. Misted double glazing, doors that have dropped on their hinges, handles that spin, locks that will not throw and draughts round tired seals: the large majority of it gets sorted in a single visit.

What we fix in Coatbridge

Coatbridge houses and what tends to go wrong in them

Coatbridge is a real mix, and the housing tells you a lot about what we are going to find when we arrive. The sandstone terraces and villas around Blairhill, Dunbeth and Drumpellier often have large bay windows that were converted to uPVC in the nineties. Those big panes are heavy, the hinges carry a lot of weight, and after twenty odd years it is usually the hinges and the sealed units that give up rather than the frames.

The ex council semis and terraces through Kirkshaws, Townhead, Sikeside, Greenend and Whifflet tend to have windows and doors from the same era of upgrades, so we often find whole streets where the multipoint locks and the compression seals are all reaching the end of their working life at once. In the newer estates at Carnbroe, Gartsherrie and around Coatdyke, the frames are usually in fine condition and it is the glass that has failed, which is the cheapest kind of fault to put right.

Repair first, replace only when it is worth it

Nine times out of ten a repair puts the problem right for a fraction of what a replacement costs, and we will tell you honestly which one you actually need. A misted unit does not mean a new window: we can replace the glass and keep the frame you already have. A door that has dropped is normally an hour of adjustment and a hinge, not a new door. If a frame really has had its day we will say so, and we will not push you into anything.

Replacement sealed units start from £75. Everything else is quoted on the job, because the price depends on the size of the unit, the type of glass and the hardware fitted, and we would rather give you a straight number than a guess.

How a call out in Coatbridge works

Tell us what the window or door is doing and, if you can, send a photo on WhatsApp. A photo of the problem is often all we need to work out which part has failed and roughly what it will cost. We carry the common hinges, handles, gaskets and lock cartridges in the van, so most jobs are done there and then. If a made to measure glass unit is needed we measure on the first visit and come back to fit it, usually within a few days.
